Case filing|Intention

Exploring the yin and yang of Chinese horror, exploring the boundary between life and death and the choice of human nature

In "Horror Resurrection", we use Chinese horror as the core to tell a fateful story of cause and effect and obsession. By exploring the boundary between life and death and human choices, we reveal the deep thinking hidden in Chinese traditional culture and bring players a soul-touching experience.

Core Experience

  • Survive by rules: The rules and taboos of the vengeful spirits are intertwined, and players need to survive rationally in the oppressive atmosphere.

  • Cultural Depth: The unique karma and yin-yang philosophy of Chinese horror give the game a unique cultural connotation.

  • Fear and reflection: facing fear in extreme environments and re-examining obsessions and the meaning of life.

Our Vision This is not only a journey of escape, but also a test of obsession and destiny. We hope that through "Horror Resurrection", every player can find their own answers in fear and hope, and feel the preciousness of life and the relief of letting go.

In the project, I served as the lead artist, illustrator, and member of the main narrative team, and it took me a year to complete this work. This was the first time that I worked with many planners and painters as the lead artist, freely exploring the core of what we wanted to express.

We are eager to break away from the traditional horror game design template and take into account both sensory stimulation and interactive experience. At the same time, the team I lead explores how to convey the cultural core and philosophy of life and death in the narrative.

In the project, I have accumulated experience in art team management, as well as how to connect with programmers, planners, technical artists, and resources.

It also enriched my personal experience in painting stylized horror independent games.

The artworks on display are all personal drawings.

Character/Monster Design

I was responsible for 80% of the game's characters' 2D art concept drawings, including various monster designs and the main character design.

The design has gone through multiple iterations and references to fit the theme stories behind different characters.

I independently completed 90% of the game's props, 2D concept design and original painting, in-game 3D modeling and material drawing, including more than 20 interactive props

Most of the items are set as Ming Dynasty antiques. The design has been researched, iterated many times, and the style has been adjusted to fit the plot.

UI Design

I independently completed all interactive UI, 2D concept design and implementation in the game, including dynamic effects, with a total of 30+ UI module materials

The design has gone through many iterations and the style has been adjusted to fit the tone of the plot.

Scene concept design

Assisted the art team to complete some concept illustrations and design drafts of the game's indoor scenes

Illustration Design|Game Over Death Scene

After the decryption or action fails, the penalty branch of the game is triggered

I independently drew three branches of death illustrations for three game endings

Please note that Horror Resurgence is an experimental restricted horror game released in North America. The pictures contain bizarre and bloody elements, so watch with caution.

English translation of copywriting

I was responsible for the English translation and proofreading of the first three chapters (60% of the content)

Personal summary and team management

As the lead artist, I was responsible for organizing art group meetings, assigning art tasks, and closely coordinating resources with technical artists and planners. I would communicate with the lead planner about the 2D art materials needed for the current version, and design a specific implementation plan based on the team's feedback on the required duration.

I am mainly responsible for the 2D-related art resources in the team, and work with technical artists to complete the art implementation and team management of the project.

  • Core art creation: Lead the completion of most of the 2D art materials in the project, including character design, scene drawing and concept art production, to ensure the unity and high quality of the overall art style.

  • Team management and collaboration: As the core manager of the art team, coordinate the work of team members, formulate art development plans, and work closely with the 3D art team to ensure the consistency of the style of 3D and 2D content.

  • Creative Contribution: Proposed and improved several key creative concepts, which influenced the overall art style and narrative expression of the game, making the visual design more consistent with the theme.

  • Quality control: Responsible for the final art quality review to ensure that every visual presentation meets the project goals and player expectations.
